We are excited to share our virtual Book Fair with Barefoot Books this winter and holiday season! Barefoot Books are incredible additions to any library! They often feature diverse content, gorgeous illustrations, and magical stories sure to engage readers of all ages! Hello DV Connect K-8 Families,

Our application for the 2021-2022 school year is now live! If you have family or friends that are interested in applying to our program for next school year, now is the time for them to apply! *If you plan to continue enrollment at Da Vinci Connect K-8 next year, you do NOT need to re-apply. The re-enrollment process for current students takes place in the Spring*

For current 8th grade families specifically: there are several upcoming student chat dates, where prospective families and their students can ask current Da Vinci HS students questions about the student experience at each school. Please use the above link to access the zoom link for the HS student chats. The link is located on the right hand side of the page, about midway down. The dates for the HS student chats are:

We have been invited to a special, free, virtual screening of the new documentary, Starting at Zero. The film explores the power of investing high-quality early childhood education. Hello DV Connect K-8 Families,

For those of you who were unable to stop by last week to pick up a headset with microphone for your student(s), we will be having another distribution take place this weekend on Saturday.  No RSVP is necessary.  Additional dates and times will be scheduled in the weeks to come in an effort to continue to provide opportunities for pickup as needed. This week, the headsets will be distributed on the following date and time this weekend in the parking lot of the school campus located at 201 N. Douglas Street, El Segundo CA, 90045:

• Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

To best expedite this process, please bring a letter-sized paper with the following information clearly written on it:  Student(s)’ school(s), Student(s)’ grade level, and Student(s)’ last and first name.  The student or parent/guardian will be asked to display that paper to the Da Vinci staff member distributing the headsets to facilitate the distribution. The headsets will be distributed under a canopy which will be set-up in Lane 1 of the parking lot, the lane closest to the gym.

Hello Da Vinci Connect K-8 Families,

Lights…Camera…Action…and fun, spooky times ahead!  Please join DV Connect’s FAN’s Kindness Movement for a night at the movies presenting the sweet, animated films, Room on the Broom and Spookley, The Square Pumpkin for our younger kiddos, and the action-packed movie, Goosebumps 2 for our older kiddos!🎃👻🍿

*Room on the Broom is based on Julia Donaldson’s picture book, telling the story of a kind witch who invites a collection of animals to join her on her broom, though her cat thinks it will be too crowded.  Her new friends make themselves useful, however, when the witch is threatened by a fearsome dragon.

*Spookley, The Square Pumpkin is about a friendly scarecrow and a spider trio who help an odd-shaped pumpkin overcome his feelings of feeling different from everyone else!  Dare to be square!🎃

*Goosebumps 2 is rated PG and is about two best friends named Sonny and Sam.  One day, they meet, Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy from an unpublished “Goosebumps” book by R.L. Stine.  Slappy kidnaps Sonny’s mother and brings all of his ghoulish friends back to life – just in time for Halloween.

The student headsets with microphone have finally arrived and are ready to be distributed to our students! This week, the headsets will be distributed on the following dates and times in the parking lot of the school campus located at 201 N. Douglas Street, El Segundo CA, 90045:

• Wednesday, October 28th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
• Thursday, October 29th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
• Friday, October 30th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM You can also pick up your Connect supply bag on this day only at any time, if you haven’t already—Register HERE so we can have your bag ready for you! When you arrive, pull in to the parking lot and use LANE 3

No RSVP is necessary for these days.  Additional dates and times, including a possible weekend day, will be scheduled in the weeks to come in an effort to continue to provide opportunities for pickup for anyone who is unable to come by this week to get the headsets.

We wanted to share that the El Seguno Museum of Art (ESMOA) is hosting an Evening for Educators event this afternoon at 4:00pm! You’ll enjoy a discussion with the facilitator and then will be invited to participate in a hands-on printmaking workshop…all from the comfort of your own home! A few members of our Connect community have participated in these events in the past (as recently as last week!) and we have heard positive feedback from those who participated. ESMOA is a longstanding supporter of Da Vinci! If you’d like to participate and connect with other Da Vinci families, Register HERE!

Hello Da Vinci Connect K-8 Families,

With election day weeks away, The Seeds of the Future project is close to the finish line of its goal to help 90% of age eligible Da Vinci Extension students register and vote in the November 3rd election.

We are still in need of volunteers who are available to support students in our Election Day Lighthouse.  The Lighthouse is a Google Meet page where volunteers will commit to a 30-minute time slot to provide basic voting information to students and families who may call in seeking support on election day.  If you are interested in volunteering, there will be a Lighthouse training this afternoon from 3:15 – 4pm.  Here is the Zoom link for the training.

We hope you are enjoying SLCs! Our staff appreciates these opportunities to meet with your family and provide students with authentic opportunities to own their learning and show what they know! Last week was also World Teacher Day, and we celebrate YOU! Thank you for being your child’s first and forever teacher, and for sharing them with us on this journey.

As a reminder, there is no school this Friday, October 16^th. It is a professional development day across Da Vinci Schools.
