Student Headsets are here!

Hello Connect K-8 Families,

The student headsets with microphone have finally arrived and are ready to be distributed to our students! This week, the headsets will be distributed on the following dates and times in the parking lot of the school campus located at 201 N. Douglas Street, El Segundo CA, 90045:

  • Wednesday, October 28th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Thursday, October 29th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Friday, October 30th from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM You can also pick up your Connect supply bag on this day only at any time, if you haven’t already—Register HERE so we can have your bag ready for you! When you arrive, pull in to the parking lot and use LANE 3

To best expedite this process, please bring a letter-sized paper with the following information clearly written on it:  Student(s)’ school(s), Student(s)’ grade level, and Student(s)’ last and first name.  The student or parent/guardian will be asked to display that paper to the person distributing the headsets to facilitate the distribution. The headsets will be distributed under the large black canopy which will be set-up in Lane 1 of the parking lot, the lane closest to the gym.

No RSVP is necessary for these days.  Additional dates and times, including a possible weekend day, will be scheduled in the weeks to come in an effort to continue to provide opportunities for pickup for anyone who is unable to come by this week to get the headsets.

Please feel free to contact the school’s front office if you have any questions about this.

Thank you!

Election Day Volunteers in Partnership with our Seeds of the Future Project

Hello Da Vinci Connect K-8 Families,

With election day weeks away, The Seeds of the Future project is close to the finish line of its goal to help 90% of age eligible Da Vinci Extension students register and vote in the November 3rd election.

We are still in need of volunteers who are available to support students in our Election Day Lighthouse.  The Lighthouse is a Google Meet page where volunteers will commit to a 30-minute time slot to provide basic voting information to students and families who may call in seeking support on election day.  If you are interested in volunteering, there will be a Lighthouse training this afternoon from 3:15 – 4pm.  Here is the Zoom link for the training.

Da Vinci Connect K-8 Update

Greetings Connect Families!

We hope you are enjoying SLCs! Our staff appreciates these opportunities to meet with your family and provide students with authentic opportunities to own their learning and show what they know! Last week was also World Teacher Day, and we celebrate YOU! Thank you for being your child’s first and forever teacher, and for sharing them with us on this journey.

As a reminder, there is no school this Friday, October 16th. It is a professional development day across Da Vinci Schools.

Important request: Every year, we survey our parents and students to better understand how we can best support you and grow as a school. We request that ALL Connect parents take this survey this week: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/parent_survey_Fall2020 It should take you 10 minutes.

We also want to remind you that this Wednesday (every 2nd and 4th Wed. of the month) is our Fireside Chat for parents! Join your fellow parents to check in and connect! We would also like to hear your ideas about how we can help support families connect with each other during this challenging distance learning time. Zoom link here: https://us02web.zoom.us/s/3105421796 (no password).

Thank you!

Parent Training: Suicide Prevention & Awareness

Hello Da Vinci Connect 6-8 Families,

Da Vinci Connect is in the process of creating awareness this year with regards to suicide prevention, awareness of warning signs, increasing resiliency, and training of key people in the process. Most importantly, you, the parents, guardians, or caregivers. You are a crucial part of this project and process.

When schools closed to students and staff due to COVID-19, many parts of our school community were affected, such as our planned training events. However, the Center for Distance and Online Learning (CDOL) division of the LA County Office of Education (LACOE) recently developed and released a set of screencasts for online parent training. This training is focused on suicide prevention, awareness of warning signs, and increasing resiliency. It is important to note; each segment is not meant to be a stand-alone segment, which means that we ask you ultimately to watch each of them in order and its entirety. By design, each segment is no longer than 15 minutes because you may not have an opportunity to view content like this for an extended period of time.

Student Documentary Competition hosted by CSPAN

Hello Da Vinci 6-8 Families,

Please see below for a student opportunity hosted by CSPAN and supported by Spectrum!

Have a Great Week!

Charter Communications, locally known as Spectrum is once again proud to support C-SPAN and its annual StudentCam documentary competition. With many students across the country adapting to a virtual or hybrid model of learning, StudentCam 2021 offers an opportunity for project-based learning that can be particularly rewarding for both teachers and students, regardless of the educational setting.

The competition invites middle and high school students to join the national conversation on the challenges our country is currently facing by creating a 5- to 6-minute documentary on this theme: Explore the issue you most want the president and new Congress to address in 2021. Next spring, the C-SPAN Education Foundation will award 150 student and 53 teacher prizes totaling $100,000.

To ensure students’ success in these challenging times, Spectrum is committed to help bridge the digital divide with enhanced measures that expand internet access and maintain connectivity for remote learners.

You can help inform teachers and students about StudentCam by sharing about the competition on social media (#StudentCam2021) or in conversations  in your community.

We hope you’ll join us in getting the word out about C-SPAN’s StudentCam and how it serves as an innovative enrichment-learning experience well-suited to these unprecedented times. For more information on the competition, please visit www.studentcam.org.
